Garnet Garland
Choker necklace of large faceted garnet beads, with faceted rutilated quartz and a tassel of crystals, strung on cord with Chinese knots. Fastens with a vermeil Bali silver toggle clasp in rope design.
The name garnet derives from the Latin for grain, due it is said to the rounded crystals and similarity to the red kernals of the pomegranate.
Garnet has long been regarded as a talismanic crystal with powerful properties that help to energise, regenerate and bestow self-confidence.
Woolly Worm bracelet
Bracelet of rutilated quartz and pale citrine, strung with Chinese knots. Fastens with silver clasp
The name and shape of this piece was inspired by the members of the online beading group I belong to. The original was made with lots of much smaller beads, and by a different method, but this organic form just seemed to grow once I started.
Silver Boa
Large faceted serpentine beads with dyed coral focal piece and intricate handmade silver beads, strung on cord with Chinese knots and fastening with decorative sterling floral design toggle clasp.
The large hollow silver beads are made in two parts that are interwoven to give a basket effect, and are separated from the other elements by small handmade Bali silver beads.
The word serpentine comes from the latin for snake. This stone is sometimes incorrectly sold as jade because of its similar colour. Found in China, Korea, New Zealand and the United States, it is softer than jade so is easier to work.
Oceans 10
Long necklace featuring 10 handcarved moukaite fish, with round blue chalcedony and faceted rock crystal beads. Ends with tassel of glass seed beads and fastens with silver hook clasp.
My first thought for a design using these fish was a simple collar, but my husband suggested they should be something "more interesting", so I attempted to interpret his idea
Moukaite is a variety of jasper, colours are reddish browns to paler ochres. The pieces in this necklace display a nice range of shades. Click picture for a close up.
Fancy Fluorite
Lariat style necklace, with front fastening silver toggle clasp. Features large polished fluorite, separated by small beads of the same material. Tassel ends with two unpolished amethyst rocks.
Fluorite is a particularly attractive stone which occurs in a variety of colours. Some specimens show marked colour banding, visible in a couple of the stones in this piece.
The stones crystal properties promote order, harmony and balance.
