|Guest Artist - Viola Law|
|It is my pleasure to introduce Viola as a Guest Artist. She runs a small gallery in Hong Kong with her husband. They deal mainly in jade carvings and custom ordered wooden items. It might seem that these are two very different businesses, but good quality Chinese pieces for display are always put on carved wooden stands, and serious collectors often keep pieces stored in fitted wooden boxes.
Viola specialises in combining the most beautiful and complex Chinese knots with pieces of Burmese and nephrite jade to create stunning jewelry. We met when I lived in Hong Kong, and she was my mentor and inspiration for some of the techniques I use.
The shop is so much more than simply a showroom, she is always willing to spend time with people to explain types of jade and the designs of the carvings. No matter how much you read about jade there is really no substitute for being able to look at and handle the real thing. If you can't make it all the way to Hingstar Art Gallery in Lyndhurst Terrace, Central, Hong Kong, then at least you can enjoy browsing the online gallery of some of her work.
